If My Blog Were Hypey Link Bait

New To Snowboardjohn.com?
Here are a few posts the other readers recommend you check out.

Have you noticed how normal and/or obscure many of my blog post headlines are?

It’s not that I’m a crappy copywriter or anything like that. It’s just because this blog is written solely for people who I regard as friends or friends of friends in my community (which is mostly the other blogs I read and comment on)

Could you imagine talking to someone you knew in real life, in a link baity, hypey fashion? It just wouldn’t make any sense.

Instead of asking them to pass you the salt, you’d be warning them that only one in the next three people who pass you the salt have the opportunity to get 187% of the normal amount of potatoes next meal time.

You’d proclaim that the local restaurant is giving away free gourmet meals, and when everyone shows up, explain that it’s buy 8 meals, get the 9th free.

And frankly you’d begin to seem like someone no one can really trust. Nothing would be said of course, but the next time you point something out, people will be a little bit more wary, and pay you a little bit less attention.

I think there’s always room for exaggeration and hype, but not amongst friends and colleagues.  Leave it for the people who don’t know you, and are unlikely to ever remember your name.
